Tenant FAQs


  • Do you run a background check?

    Yes, Journey Real Estate requires every person over the age of 18 to go through our application process. This process includes a credit check, proof of income, prior eviction history, criminal background check, employment verification, and a reference from the previous landlord.


  • What is required prior to move-in?

    • Approved Application.
    • Lease signed and returned to Journey Real Estate.
    • Utility accounts set up in tenant’s name.
    • Move-in funds must be in cashiers check or money order.
    • On move-in day tenant must come to Journey Real Estate to pick up keys and move in packet.
  • Is the property re-keyed?

    Yes, when a new tenant signs a lease they are given access to our maintenance software. Where they are prompted to enter a re-key request as their first entry.

  • Does Journey Real Estate handle the repairs on my rental?

    Yes, tenants have access to an online maintenance portal as well as 24-hour emergency phone service to address issues that may arise. Per the Arizona Landlord Tenant Act, by virtue of a tenant requesting a repair, permission to enter the property is granted with no further notice being required by Journey Real Estate or its vendors. However, our vendors do make every effort to contact the tenant to schedule an appointment.

  • What if I have a problem with a noisy neighbor?

    Prescott noise ordinance states that noise from any unit should not be audible to any neighbor after 10:00 pm and before 7:00 am.  In the event of a noise disturbance tenants are advised to call the police.

  • How do I get my security deposit back?

    The move-out calculation shall be sent in the mail upon lease expiration, the surrender of keys and remotes (gate and/or garage) to the AGENT’S office, and according to the time frames indicated in Arizona Residential Landlord Tenant Act (hereinafter called ARLTA). The property must be returned in a clean and undamaged condition acceptable to the AGENT, this includes PROFESSIONAL FLOOR CLEANING including but not limited to carpet, tile, and grout by a truck-mounted cleaning company. In addition, PROFESSIONAL HOUSEKEEPING is required. A non-refundable walk-through fee, calculated at ten percent (10%) or $135.00 of the total rent whichever is greater, will be charged. A non-refundable re-key fee, calculated at ten percent (10%) or $135.00 of the total rent whichever is greater, will also be deducted from TENANT’s security deposit.

  • What does Journey Real Estate require prior to marketing a property?

    • Signed property management agreement and any other required documents (city/town specific, county forms, lead-based paint, etc)
    • Set-up fees
    • Keys to the property
    • Maintenance and repairs completed based on our recommendation at initial walkthrough
    • Professional housekeeping and carpet cleaning (tenants are required to do the same at move-out)

  • What criteria do you use in screening applicants?

    • Criminal history (any convictions, misdemeanors, or felonies)
    • Rental history (rental reference from a previous or current landlord)
    • Income status (2.5-3 times the rent in gross monthly income)
    • Employment history (Job longevity and/or in the same line of work)
    • Credit history (scored based on credit range)
  • Are pets allowed in the property?

    Owner can elect to allow pets in the property or not. Any property that allows pets will require a PetScreening account to be made.
